The
scenery changes quite rapidly from lush shades of green in Louisiana to
barren, yellow sun bleached prairie regions on reaching the border into
Texas. This tour is indeed a scorcher during the early summer months.
Touring days range from rather short to demandingly long as we cross through
New Mexico and Nevada in the later stages of our journey. One of the absolute
highlights of this tour is cycling along through the haunting landscapes
of the "Canyonlands route", this being definitely an unforgettable
experience. Leaving
the banks of Lake Mead and crossing up over the mighty, stunning "Hoover
dam", then its all downhill into Las Vegas. Spending a day or two
here in town is a must and gives you the chance to gather energy for the
afore lying hard and very strenuous section of this tour through the baking
hot "Death Valley" and over the high, snow covered Sierra Nevadas.
Like
all tours, this one certainly has plenty of ups and downs. You'll be going
from extreme
heat to rather cool temps and from arid, dry flat plains to snow topped
mountain passes. It gives you a great variety of landscapes and highlights
along the route from New Orleans to San Francisco not to mention touring
around all the spectacular National Parks underway.

Cycling
along through the boiling hot regions of northern Texas offers huge highways
and very little traffic.

Well,
even a hardened cyclist can't resist the urge of trying their luck in
one of the many casinos, when staying a few days in glittering Las Vegas!
