Cycling along through the tallest, living trees on the planet. Year for year, the merciless, pounding force of the at times wild and rough Pacific wear away the rusted remains of this once proud sailing ship.

This is indeed one of the finest tours, that you'll find at all offering spectacular coastal scenery, easy to medium cycling sections daily, camping facilities galore (most of these offering cheap Hike&Bike sites) and especially, during the summer months, you'll find many fellow cyclists on this route enjoying the salty, cool Pacific breeze likewise.
The route from Vancouver Island down to San Francisco offers a great variety of scenic treats and interesting highlights.
The shady, lush green forest sections of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State and the mile long, almost deserted, sandy beaches of Oregon sprinkled with sea-stacks, barking sea-lions and pounding surf while cycling along on the world famous Highway 101 are merely a few of the highlights, that you can expect to daily encounter on this journey.
Reaching the border into the sunshine State of California, it is an absolute must to cycle along through the "Avenue of the Giants" in the vast Redwood forests and enjoy this wondrous and mysterious world amongst the tallest living trees on our planet.
Further south, when passing through Bodega Bay, you should watch out for swooping gulls and crows as "Alfred Hitchcocks" infamous film "The Birds" was once many years ago filmed here on location. You'll have these rascal raccoons scratching into your front panniers, trying to find out if the food you had planned to keep for your lunch-break tomorrow, is indeed worth keeping so long when spending the night in Samuel P. Taylor statepark, just short of the Golden Gate bridge, that takes us over majestically into our end destination on the Bay-area.
As one can no doubt imagine, this route is quite a hilly experience and due to prevailing northwesterly winds during the summertime, it is very advisable to cycle the route accordingly. However, this is indeed a tour to remember and cherish for the rest of your cycling days!

Cycling through the mighty Redwood forests of northern California is a must!
The northern West Coast proved fatal for the "Peter Iredale" one stormy winter night in 1906.
The beautiful Oregon coastline is worth a tour all on it's own! Due to prevailing northwest winds during the summer months, it is better to cycle from  the north heading into the sunny south!

The 1238 mile or 1980 Km route from Vancouver Island via Seattle to San Francisco is indeed an unforgettable adventure.
