Heading south for Gibraltar
The famous "Rock of Gibraltar" that towers above the city, can be seen from as far away as Malaga on a clear day. A fantastic motorbike tour from Perpignan on the eastern French/Spanish border all the way down the breathtaking Mediterranean coast passing along the Costa Brava through Girona and Barcelona. With the sweet smell of orange and lemon plantations in the air, the route slenders it's way past Valencia and mile long sandy beaches taking us into the hot and dusty city of Alicante on the Costa Blanca. Slowly but surely, the high slopes of the Sierra Nevada's start to appear in the distance as the route falls and climbs along the coastal cliffs allowing us stunning views over the deep blue ocean. Observing the sheer uncountable numbers of cucumber plantations we pass underway, the last section of the journey along the Costa Del Sol offers spectacular scenery, golden sunshine and winding coast roads lined with palm trees, fruit orchards and vegetable plantations. From Almeria to the very tropical, holiday and tourist friendly city of Malaga the route hugs the ocean passing through many little townships and villages, many of these hosting ample street Cafe's and typical Spanish flared restaurants to rest and recuperate a short while. Reaching Marbella, we pass thousands of holiday villas built up on the steep hill slopes, their orange and red-brown colors blending almost perfect into the arid, natural surroundings to be found here. On a clear day, we might even have first glimpses of the famous "Rock" towering beside our end destination. As we make our way down again to sea-level on the last few miles of this wonderful tour, we pass through the bustling town of La Linea de la Concepcion just before reaching the turquoise colored bayfront right underneath the high, very impressive Rock of Gibraltar. After passport formalities at the gate, join the traffic queues and head into the busy, narrow streets of town passing many tourist filled red double-decker buses on the way. Shopping, bathing, cable-car tours not to mention the great nightlife are merely a few of the awaiting amenities for you here.
